Leading the next generation.

St. Mark’s Lutheran Academy is where children, in Christ, reach up to God’s love, reach out to love others, and reach in to discover their gifts and abilities.

Reaching Up

“Let the little children come unto me.” Children experience the love of Christ through story, wonder, and play. Spiritual lives are nurtured by discovering God’s Word through creative exploration. SMLA receives a tremendous amount of support and encouragement from members of St. Mark’s.

Reaching Out

“Love your neighbor as yourself.” The social development of children is one of its most significant benefits—teachers model kindness and respect as they guide children in their daily activities. Learning and playing in a cooperative environment foster love for self and love for others.

Reaching In

We believe that every child has God-given gifts and talents. We also believe that each child can do great things. Therefore, our programs are designed to meet children’s needs and abilities. We offer individually paced lesson planning to challenge students to reach their potential.

“The education of even a small child, therefore, does not aim at preparing him for school, but for life.” - Maria Montessori

Montessori Education

Montessori offers an unparalleled educational experience that allows children to develop their whole person—intellectually, physically, and spiritually. More than just an alternative to traditional daycare and preschools, we believe that a Montessori education provides the ideal environment for students to come to know themselves, the world, and ultimately their place in it.

Our Team

The SMLA staff are blessed with a professional, caring group of educators dedicated to helping each child develop to their full potential. Director/Lead Teacher Christy Brewster has over 20 years of experience in teaching using the Montessori Method. Assistant Teacher Brandee Miller is a full-time BGSU student majoring in Allied Health. Assistant Teacher Laura Drewes is a graduate of BGSU and has spent her career in activities planning for holistic life-long learning.

Our Program

The SMLA is open year-round with weekday hours from 7:30 am – 5:30 pm.  The preschool portion of the day begins, and 8:30 am and ends at 3:30 pm.  Before and after school care is provided for families at no extra charge.  For 2022, SMLA is accepting students.  We offer childcare that includes nap time, assistance with potty training, specialized and prescribed exercises/treatments, exercise/recess, or other special needs that your child may require.
